The De Kooning Ensemble was founded in September 2019 while all the members were studying at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where they became the recipients of the Ivan Sutton Chamber Music Prize 2021. The ensemble have been coached by outstanding artists such as Oscar Perks, Sarah-Jane Bradley, Caroline Palmer, Carole Presland, Richard Lester, members of the Endellion String Quartet and the Gould Piano Trio.

The ensemble have performed in prestigious venues including The Fidelio Café, 1901 Arts Club, All Saints Church, Blackheath, Milton Court Concert Hall and St Bartholomew The Great. The ensemble strives to make chamber music more prominent in young people’s lives and works with composers to push the boundaries of the chamber music repertoire. Most recently The De Kooning Ensemble commissioned Darius Paymai’s Piano Quartet which was premiered in All Saints Church, Blackheath on 9th July 2021. It is a work that explores “juxtaposition and superposition of simple layers, openness, slowness, breathing, fragility, materiality.” The De Kooning Ensemble, being avid educationalists, were awarded a residency at the Centre of Young Musicians Taunton in 2021, have given multiple masterclasses at Bryanston School, Dorset and worked with up and coming composers on the Guildhall Short Summer Composition Course.

Caskie Trio – Thursday 9th June 2022 from 6pm
Tickets £10 (£5 student/concessions) + booking fee

Caskie Trio are formed of pianist-vocalist Maya Caskie, violinist-vocalist Nicole Petrus Barracks and cellist Evie Coplan. Graduates of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and respectively from the Composition, Jazz and Classical departments of the school, they are a trio of young women performing originals and arrangements in a style that merges singer-songwriter, folk and improvised music. Their sound draws inspiration from the music of Esperanza Spalding, Laura Marling, and I’m With Her. Their small ensemble brings a surprisingly warm, full sound that is perfect for intimate venues and each performance is unique from their last.

In 2020, Caskie Trio recorded for Maya Caskie’s original six-track record “Glacier Point” and they were subsequently selected as artists for Small Pond Studio X Arts Council England’s Emerging Artists Scheme in 2021.

Since establishing themselves as a trio in 2021, Caskie Trio have performed a sold out show at Green Note, Christ Church East Sheen and Morito, Hackney.

Kinu Trio – Thursday 16th June 2022 from 6pm
Tickets £10 (£5 student/concessions) + booking fee

About St Stephen Walbrook

St Stephen Walbrook has been described as one of the ten most important buildings in England. The church, which is crowned by the first dome to be built in the UK, has a perfect acoustic. The interior is arranged around a circular altar, designed by acclaimed sculptor Henry Moore. St Stephen Walbrook was the birthplace of The Samaritans, the world’s first telephone helpline and continues its ministry of wellbeing today through arts, music and spiritual support to those living, working and visiting the Square Mile.
