We continue to explore the Gospel of Mark, using “Meeting God in Mark” by Rowan Williams as our guide. This week we turn to another of Jesus’s healing miracles – described in Mark 9.14-29. We find once again that a relationship of trust is vital in order for the healings of Jesus to take place.

The father of a boy possessed by a spirit asks Jesus if he is able to do anything for his son as the disciples were unable to heal him. Amidst the tumult of the jostling crowd which has gathered round, Jesus turns to face the man. “All things can be done for the one who believes” he explains.

Immediately the man cries out “Lord, I believe – help thou my unbelief.”
