Dear Friends,

I am delighted to set out below out the events at St Stephen Walbrook for Advent and Christmas, which are also available at this link

We have been waiting and yearning for light and hope for many months and this year celebrating the arrival of true light, which enlightens everyone, is particularly precious, even if the patterns of celebration are different.

We are sadly unable to hold most of the carol services and concerts that we are usually privileged to host, however, thanks to the support of many, we are able to hold a live service at the church each Thursday at 12.45pm for a congregation, with appropriate measures to mitigate Covid-19 risks. On 17th December, this service will take the form of the Parish Carol Service, at which capacity will be restricted to 60 and so registration via Eventrbite in advance is required. On 24th December the service will take the form of our Mass for Christmas Eve.

Through the periods of Lockdown, many have been reminded of the value of the fabulous gift of music and we are enormously blessed by the many wonderful musicians who support St Stephen Walbrook. I do hope that you will enjoy the range of concerts available on line on the website as video recordings, in addition to the recordings of services.

Ben Giddens will perform an organ recital for Advent and Christmas and the Choral Scholars have recorded a Christmas Concert. In addition, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth two of his symphonies adapted for piano duet have been recorded by the remarkable pianists Ben Schoeman and Tessa Uys. The performance of the 9th Symphony (Choral) recorded with The Choral Scholars will be released on Beethoven’s birthday, 16th December; the recording of the 3rd (Eroica) will be released on 1st January 2021.

Please do forward the link to the website to colleagues and friends and please do sign up as subscribers to the church’s youtube channel so that you are notified of all releases of recordings.

We all give prayerful, heartfelt thanks for the development of the vaccines which enable us to look forward to restoration of greater degrees of freedom and we hope to arrange special services and a festival of music at the church in the Spring/Summer of 2021.

In the meantime, it will be a joy to see you at the church, however, please do only visit the church if you feel comfortable with travelling and the risks involved. I will be in contact again before Christmas and so I wish you all blessings for Advent and for your preparations for celebrating anew the Word becoming Flesh.

Stephen
